No, an inspection is not required to renew your vehicle tags in Tennessee. The state does not currently mandate safety inspections or emissions testing for vehicle registration renewal. Tennessee eliminated statewide vehicle safety inspections and discontinued emissions testing requirements in all counties as of 2022.

Vehicle owners may renew their registration online, by mail to their local county clerk's office, or in person at county clerk locations. After a successful renewal, Tennessee issues registration decals that must be placed in the upper right corner of the rear license plate to indicate valid registration status.
